Tip of who lives in SP
In the city of São Paulo, Carnival is celebrated in two ways: at the Sambadrome with the Parade of Samba Schools (not a school, but associations focused on the organization of samba Carnival parades) and in the streets with the carnival blocos (mean blocks, street bands dedicated to Carnival that drag crowds to party).
Two Saturdays before the official date, the parades of some “Pre-Carnival” blocos already take place and the party continues in the streets until the Sunday after Carnival Tuesday, the “Post-Carnival”. Each bloco has its own characteristics: some are more traditional, with marchinhas (or marchas, mean marches, traditional Carnival music) and axé (Brazilian rhythm) hits, and others democratize the party and take to the streets to the sounds of funk, sertanejo (country side music) and even rock. In the Sambadrome, the parades start on the last Friday before the official date. They are driven by the samba song and accompanied by a lot of tradition, rhythm, beauty and competitive spirit, as there is a contest that always chooses the best school of the year.
