Breakfast: Bakery Itiriki
At Rua dos Estudantes, you will find Bakery Itiriki, with several exotic products. Don’t miss the delicious pobá juice, a traditional Taiwan drink made from pobá, the Chinese “dark pearl”. The ingredient is made with cassava starch in a process similar to sagu. For the juice, it is mixed with other flavors, like green tea, black tea, yam, tropical fruits, strawberry and melon. Another delicacy is the “melon-pan”, a bun melon shaped with a crispy exterior and vanilla flavor. There is also curry bread, filled with potato, carrots and chicken. To wrap it up, taste the green tea cake – very smooth and with a delicious aroma.
Morning Ride: streets of Liberdade
Liberdade Neighborhood. Photo: Caio Pimenta/SPTuris.
Liberdade is a very interesting neighborhood. Its main streets have in its decoration the traditional oriental lights and the signs in some stores are written in Chinese and Japanese. Walking around there can be fantastic. Enjoy stores and oriental markets with traditional food and products, from decoration articles, to kitchen appliances, music CDs and DVDs, anime, HQs and games.
Lunch: Lamen Kazu
A specialized lamen (a refrigerated oriental kind of pasta imported directly from Japan) Japanese restaurant, Lamen Kazu provides, in Brazil, the authentic Japanese flavor. The lamen is a Chinese dish, which developed in Japan, adapted to the taste of the Japanese and establishing a peculiar style. Nowadays is a well-appreciated dish on Japanese culinary and that represents its culture, just like sushi, sukiyaki and tempura.
Afternoon Ride: Buddhist Temples
Liberdade Neighborhood. Photo: Caio Pimenta/SPTuris.
At Rua São Joaquim, there is the Japanese Buddhist temple Busshinji, a beautiful place with traditional architecture, made in wood and ornamented with Buddha figures, where you can seek religion haven and reach your “inner self”. To visit it, it is required to remove your shoes. The tourist can also take part in ceremonies and rituals that usually take place once a month.
