The Parque da Luz was originally created as a botanical garden, open to the public in 1825 as the Light Public Garden. This is the oldest and most traditional public city park.

The site has an area for presentations, gazebo, playground, water features, a grotto with waterfall, underground tank, fitness equipment, jogging track, seating areas, restrooms, gazebo, tram stop, lakes, fountain, as well as a permanent exhibition of sculptures, reading woods and the Administrator’s House museum.
