Considered the first skyscraper in Latin America, the Martinelli Building is located in São Paulo downtown among São Bento and Líbero Badaró Streets and São João Avenue.
It was designed by the Italian Giuseppe Martinelli symbolized the city’s progress in the 1920s. More than 600 people worked on the construction that began in 1924 and opened in 1929.
The building generated much controversy, because there was no other building in São Paulo with great height. At the time, buildings with more than 10 floors were considered very tall.
Nowadays, it is one of the main architectural symbols of Brazil, and it was once a meeting point of São Paulo high society.
In the place there was Cine Rosario and the luxurious Hotel São Bento, as well as barber shops, stores, and even a church.
