Located in downtown São Paulo, the Mário de Andrade Library comprises one of the greatest cultural treasures of Brazil with more than 3 million items, including books, periodicals, maps and audiovisual material. It contains several reading rooms, plus a living room and an auditorium.

Founded in 1925, it was the first public library in the city. It is currently the second largest in the country. Its current building, designed by French architect Jacques Pilon, is considered a landmark of Art Déco architecture, a popular style in the twentieth century and influenced by Cubism.

Currently, the site offers a wide cultural and free programming to citizens – there are meetings with writers, researchers, artists, book launches, dramatic readings, artistic performances, workshops, evening parties, lectures, musical performances, among others.
