Among the alleys of the Vila Madalena district is located an outdoors graffiti gallery known as Beco Batman – near the subway station Clinica. With narrow streets, the site visit may be more fruitful if the visitor is on foot or by bike.
Its history began in the 1980s when a drawing of batman – the comic books character – was found on the walls of the neighborhood. The event attracted plastic art students, who began to make drawings of cubist and psychedelic influence on the walls of the alley, forming a gallery of fully painted walls.
Currently, graffiti artists renew the designs constantly and the community helps to preserve the walls that are very disputed amongst the artists. The Alley has become an obligatory tourist destination for lovers of urban arts. At each visit, a new painting is found at the site, which means that visitors can return more than once to appreciate the works.
