The Arquivo Público do Estado (Public Archive of São Paulo State) is one of the oldest institutions in São Paulo. There you can find documents related to the dictatorship era and private collections of former rulers, as well as pictures of Guilherme Gaensly, one of Brazil’s most important photographers of the nineteenth century.
It has a large permanent and intermediate textual documentation collection, an iconographic collection of nearly 1.5 million images, lots of newspapers and magazines and a research support library with 45,000 volumes.
