Rock Gallery

A rare classic CD, rock bands T-shirts, old vinyl collections, apparels for concerts or a certain accessory you have been looking for. You will find everything at Galeria do Rock (Rock Gallery).

This famous building on Rua 24 de Maio, in old Downtown, was designed by Alfredo Mathias based on Oscar Niemeyer’s school.

First shop owners came in 1963; they were tailors, shoemakers and other service providers. But old LPs, or vinyl records, arriving in late 70’s, were responsible for changing this location’s atmosphere, including its new ‘nickname’. Today, 218 rock-dedicated shops (out of 450), that is where it is worldwide famous and included in Guinness Book, as the place with more rock-dedicated establishments together. Famous people like Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden’s leading vocal), Kurt Cobain (former Nirvana’s leading vocal), Raul Seixas and Sepultura came here.

But this gallery is not only for rockers. Diversity is remarkable too. Rap, hip hop, funk, MPB, hardcore, punk, blues and jazz CDs and LPs! T-shirts, hi-fi set, piercing body accessories, tattoo studios, accessories shops (ear rings, bracelets, masks, key rings, wigs), camera fixing, and also skate, surf and girls’ shops. There are ten beauty parlors where actors, rappers and samba singers come to prepare their 'Afro-style' hair.

An average of 5,000 people every day wandering on its four floors, Rock Gallery became one of the symbols of cultural democracy in São Paulo. It is an example of an area where urban tribes may live in peace, trying to break prejudice barriers. Of course, a must-see place if you want to know more about São Paulo.
