Jaraguá Park, on a 5,000 ha area, is one of the last remaining parts of Mata Atlântica forest within urban areas in São Paulo, showing its historical, aesthetic, recreational, economic and environmental importance.
Known as the highest point in metropolitan area, tracks in Jaraguá Park take to 1,135 m altitude peak and to the belvedere, from where it is possible to have a breathtaking view, along the way, lakes and springs, wild animals in their habitat.
It is an urban park, one of the most representatives in Brazil. Created in 1961 and protected by UNESCO Human Heritage in 1994, this park is historically significant, as it has been developed during several social representations in São Paulo. Today it is famous for TV antennas placed up the peak, with no ‘damage’ to its beauty, as it is still a postcard.
This park was created in 1961 and offers activities for adults and children: barbecue area, courts, playgrounds, hostel, snack bar, pavilion and amphitheater. It is possible to go to Jaraguá Peak by car taking a tourist road.
