Museum of the Brazilian House


 
In one of business centers of São Paulo is the only design and architecture museum in Brazil, the Museum of the Brazilian House. When crossing avenues Faria Lima and Cidade Jardim, you will see a house built in the 1940s to be the home for Fábio da Silva Prado, major of São Paulo at that time.

Created in 1970 as Museu do Mobiliário Artístico e Histórico Brasileiro (Brazilian Museum of Furniture Art and History), had its name changed in 1971 suggested by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda. Architectonic design by Wladimir Alves de Souza houses today a permanent collection of furniture from XVII, XVIII, XIX and XX centuries and also copper objects presented at “Furniture at Brazilian House” exhibition.

Since 1996, part of the collection previously restricted is now open to public. Among collections, pieces like Renata Crespi’s portrait, by sculptor Victor Brecheret, and many painting and lithography rescuing São Paulo history moments showing a profile of the society during the 40s and 50s.

Additionally to this wide 6,000 m² garden, visitors also find pleasant restaurant Quinta do Museu, where Brazilian and international cuisine are available. Institution has been known after organizing “Design Museu da Casa Brasileira” award in 1986.
