An area with more than 75,000 m² gathering architecture, cuisine, nature and arts on Morumbi Avenue, number 4.077, houses the charming Maria Luisa & Oscar Americano Foundation, an excellent option for those looking for culture and entertainment in São Paulo.
The 1,500 m² house was designed by architect Oswaldo Arthur Bratke in 1950; a large park surrounds it with its 25,000 different species of Mata Atlântica forest fauna and flora. This foundation also houses a museum with pieces from century XVII-XX.
On the first floor, a pleasant room is the environment for a typical English tea. A shop sells books on arts, engravings and chinaware. For nature lovers, guided tours are organized to watch birds.
A 107-seat auditorium is in the middle of the green and silent area. Every Sunday, at 11:30 in the morning, classic music concerts take place here.
Coupe Maria Luisa and Oscar lived here with their five children for more than 20 years. When she died, her husband donated the whole property to the city of São Paulo; an open air area had been changed into wood by landscapist Otávio Mendes Teixeira, who also signed Ibirapuera Park design. Maria Luisa & Oscar Americano Foundation was established in 1974 and was opened in 1980.
