Antiques and handicraft fairs

São Paulo is a shopping paradise for everyone – no matter if you need something special or if you are one of the hundreds of dealers arriving in the city every day. You find everything, from a pin to a luxury item. Giving gifts to your friends, family and colleagues is also easy. Options for every taste and pocket.

The city is full of bazaars, shopping malls, theme streets and much more. No other city in Brazil provides so many shopping shrines. And if the matter is fairs, São Paulo is also an excellent option. There are more than 900 fairs selling from the commonest until the rarest articles. Fairs in Praça da República and Trianon, on Paulista Avenue, are the most famous for arts and handicraft. However, in Praça Benedito Calixto you will find the most fashionable fair. A more demanding people – including artists and decorators – are always wandering round and round. Every Saturday, from eight in the morning until seven o’clock. Almost 300 sellers offering handicrafts, antiques, new and almost new clothes, vinyl (LPs), toys, chinaware and furniture.

Located in Liberdade district, where Japanese colony gathers, this Fair is a curious place. For over 30 years, every Saturday and Sunday, more than 200 stalls provide accessories, pillows, Japanese lamps, bonsai, fish and knickknacks, and, of course, Eastern articles. There are also some food, such as true typical appetizing dishes, like yakisoba and tempura.

But if you look for antiques only, go to more specific fairs, like Bixiga, in Praça Dom Orion, held every Sunday, providing magazines, books, lamps, furniture and decoration articles. Antiques in the neighborhood also open on Sunday to take advantage of people. Every Sunday, for more than 20 years, on Paulista Avenue, collectors and exhibitors get together at Masp fair, looking for and selling, rarities, painting, sculptures, lamps, chandeliers, old coins and home articles.

Close to Masp, but on the other side of the same avenue, you will find Trianon fair (in front of Tenente Siqueira Campos park, aka Trianon). Visitors will find candles, accessories, clothes, soaps, incenses and wood articles, and other curious items. In the same area, Arts, Handicraft and Culture Fair José Bonifácio, gathers 50 exhibitors, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from eight in the morning until five o’clock, in the old town.

Antique fairs at Brazilian Museum of Sculpture (Mube) and Eldorado shopping mall are also excellent options. Gentil Falcão Arts Fair, located on the square with the same name, close to Luis Carlos Berrini Avenue, in Brooklin, is also another option. Since October, 2007, this fair is held every Tuesday, from nine in the morning until four o’clock, more than 60 exhibitors offer their handicraft, plastic arts, eastern cuisine, chocolate and Syrian pastries, and other products.  Another attraction in the same area is Guararapes Arts and Handicraft Fair, every Wednesday, from 10:00 until 04:00 pm.
