Winter is excellent in São Paulo!


Enjoy Sao Paulo during the winter is an excellent option. The city offers attractions for those looking for culture, entertainment, concert, season food, well, you will find everything. And for all! We have created a list with free activities, fine dinners and also some options for people who do not want to be on the cold streets.

FREE EXHIBITIONS
Life after Life – Testimonials about the Passage

This exhibition will be opened until August 2 at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, Sao Paulo government headquarters, gathers works from the Museum of Archeology of University of São Paulo (MAE). There are 37 objects related to rituals of paying homage for the dead, such as an Egyptian sarcophagus and funerary urns.
 
Valdir Cruz – photography: Symphony of a Traveler
Until July 26, this exhibition shows two series of photography created from a never seen technique developed by the photographer. One of the series has 17 images registering Yanomami tribe’s native Indians and another one shows 18 images of Parana River’s falls. Available at Palácio dos Bandeirantes.
 
Angels and Saints: Sacred Art in the collections of the Palaces
Parallely to the 1st Cantareira Winter Festival, Horto Florestal Palace exhibits sacred art works of the following palaces: Boa Vista, Campos Elíseos and Bandeirantes. There are 75 works from centuries 16 to 19. Tip: Additionally to exhibition in Horto Florestal, visit the region of Serra da Cantareira and see the Winter Festival attractions (see details below)

Illustrated Fashion – Style and trend
Taking advantage of the month of SPFW, Galeria Olido brings a collection of illustrations comparing fashion design with works by illustrator Edinei Montingelli, designer João Braga, twins Carolina and Isadora Krieger, and other artists.

Sunday’s clothes
Also at Galeria Olido, this exhibition shows 45 pictures of fashion and visual arts representing what each artist thinks of "Sunday’s clothes". Fashion universe will be shown especially by Rogerio Cavalcanti’s work, which uses his photography eyes to the theme.

MOVIES
Some film debuts are scheduled for the next weeks, like Brazilian film “Jean Charles”, telling the story of the Brazilian guy killed by the British police in a subway station in London, “Ice Age 3”, “Harry Potter and the half-blood prince”, “Butterfly effect 3”, and others.

Thriller’s classics are also a good option in free sessions at Roberto Santos Library, with exhibition of four productions from the 40s and 50s: “Sorry, wrong number”, “I walked with a Zombie”, “Colossus of New York” and “The Human Monster”. Exhibitions are from July 4 to August 1, always at 7pm.

FREE ACTIVITIES
Additionally to exhibitions at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, another attraction is the 125,000 m² garden, using 70% of the land of the Palace. Among more than 2,000 trees, you will find Brazilian wood and yellow Araguaney, and some exotic species, like cherry trees and cedar of Lebanon. People will also find more than 40 bird species, like woodpecker, southern lapwing, Rufous Hornero, squirrel cuckoo and Rufous-bellied thrush.
                                                           
FOOD
Soups, broth and creams

the traditional Italian restaurant La Vecchia Cucina offers its winter menu with unique hot options, like white bean and shrimp soup and fungi cream with grilled scallop. Chef Sergio Arno suggests drinking wine that highlights the taste of the food.

At Le Coq Hardy, chef Eliseu Pereira created Soupe à l'Oignon au Fromage Gruyère (onion and Gruyère cheese soup) to heat the meal with French tastes. At Bar do Melo, located in the famous neighborhood of Mooca, you will find only Brazilian tastes in soups and broth, like bean and mocotó (calf’s foot).

Fondue
The most requested plate in winter in traditional and innovative tastes. Until the end of August, Abruzzi keeps traditional options, like cheese, meat and chocolate, in the menu, and also harmonizing beverage. In Fondues de Griffe festival, at restaurant  Era uma vez um Chalezinho, 8 different options (5 salty and 3 sweet) As the name suggests, options include Catupiry cheese and Havanna (Argentinean milk sweet). Chocolate fondue is an option as dessert at General Prime Burger. Made with Milka chocolate, with fruits, waffle and traditional and white brownie.

Winter menu
Starters, main courses and desserts created especially for Winter at Shimo, offering delicious Japanese and Peruvian food, like special chorrillana (white fish and seafood with aji amarillo guarnecido de majado de papas).

Applebee’s becomes an Italian and American restaurant, with new options in this special winter menu: Spaghetti Bolognese and al Pesto. This restaurant also prepared suggestions of Chilean and Australian wine to drink with this pasta. Another pasta option that is part of the menu is also excellent for winter: Fettuccine Alfredo that may be prepared with shrimp or chicken.

Acclimatized dinner
Have a hot soup and shiver is not a good combination. If you go to have a soup at Le Coq Hardy,  you do not need to worry about it. Fireplace at the restaurant heats the environment and also makes a charming and romantic atmosphere. Comfort is also found at Nico Pasta & Basta, serving Italian plates at a fine and warm environment with fireplace.

Ice cream in winter
Winter taste in freezing version. Quentão, pumpkin with coconut, paçoca and bem casado are some of the options hand made by Gelateria Stramondo to satisfy your taste in the coldest days, even having an ice cream.

That is what the 1st Cantareira Winter Festival prepared for you until August 1. Hundreds of establishments and public areas in the area of Serra da Cantareira form the map of the event, like restaurants, schools and parks that will receive open air attractions, food festivals, sports, ecological tourism, musical shows, theater and other activities. Eclectic profile of Festival is found in more than 1,500 events – free or paid – for all ages. On FICA website, weekly program, and service and attraction guides are available.
